1. TESOL - an umbrella term that stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and refers to teaching English to non-native speakers in your home country, or abroad. TESL - stands for Teaching English as a Second Language and refers to teaching English to non-native speakers in a native-speaking country. 3. TEFL - stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and refers to teaching English to non-native speakers in a country where English is not an official language. 4. TEYL - stands for Teaching English to Young Learners. ARE TEFL, TESOL, & TESL DIFFERENT? Although there is a subtle difference in meaning, they are used interchangeably when it comes to certification in teaching English. Schools that hire teachers will make no distinction between TESOL and TEFL. You might see an ad for a teaching job that requires TEFL/TESOL certification. - In lesson 1, you will be introduced to the world of teaching English as a second or foreign language. You will learn about the intricacies of the methods of learning English. You will learn about the 2 models of the English language education and how they should be taught.
Lesson 2 and 3: Pronunciation and Phonology
- In lesson 2 and 3, you will learn about pronunciation and phonology. Pronouncing English words is very challenging for ESL learners, especially when their native tongue does not resemble it. As such, it becomes more challenging to teach it. In this lesson, you will learn how every nationality pronounce the English words differently. As an English teacher, you will address the issue accordingly.
Lesson 4: Grammar Basics
- In lesson 4, you will learn about the grammar basics. This is the longest lesson in our course for obvious reasons. Grammar is so comprehensive that most ESL teachers and students as well struggle to understand. As such, this topic is very important for every ESL teacher to learn.
